Tree IV belongs to my series "Scrapboard," in which I explore familiar symbols and their transformation. The tree is one of humanity's oldest symbols. It represents growth, permanence, and life. Precisely because this meaning is so deeply ingrained, I am interested in its painterly reinterpretation.
In this painting, the tree remains clearly recognizable. Its simplified form is reminiscent of a drawing that almost anyone could produce. At the same… time, visible reworkings, spontaneous gestures, and vibrant shades of green alter the perception of this familiar motif. The tree appears calm and stable, yet loses some of its self-evidence.
I am interested in the moment when familiar symbols become open to new meanings. The tree remains as a symbol, but develops a greater complexity. From a simple pictorial symbol emerges a painting about memory, change, and the beauty of imperfection.
