About this artwork
Flower VI belongs to my series "Smear Board," in which I explore how familiar pictorial symbols lose their apparent certainty. The flower is immediately recognizable, yet its simple form increasingly comes under the influence of an open, expressive painting process.
Against the bright yellow background, the large blue flower develops a powerful presence. Lines, layers of color, and spontaneous gestures overlap, corrections remain visible, and individual… forms begin to dissolve. Order and loss of control coexist without the original motif disappearing.
I am interested precisely in this intermediate state. The flower asserts itself despite all the painterly turmoil, while its apparent clarity becomes increasingly questionable. Mistakes and alterations are not concealed, but remain part of the finished image.
