About this artwork
Flower VIII belongs to my series "Scrapboard," in which I explore how familiar pictorial symbols can lose their apparent certainty. At first glance, the motif is unambiguous: a large blossom, a stem, and two leaves form a simple, almost childlike depiction of a flower.
But this order is only seemingly stable. Colors exceed their boundaries, lines overlap, corrections and previous decisions remain visible. The clear form begins to fray in many places… without losing its recognizability.
I am interested precisely in this state between order and loss of control. The seemingly simple symbol remains, while its perfect execution increasingly fails. It is precisely the errors, shifts, and visible traces of the painting process that open the motif to new perceptions.
Blume VIII is a picture about imperfection, change, and the fragility of seemingly self-evident certainties.
