About this artwork
An investigation into the physical tension between fluidity and the fixed, focused on the rugged transition where a heavy brine meets the silent, weathered shore. Utilising a dense, expressive impasto technique, we move beyond mere representation to capture the actual "heaviness" of the sea's edge. The deep, organic greens and earth-toned textures create a grounding presence, while the ridges of paint catch shifting light to suggest the movement…
of a cold, rising tide.
Continuing a dialogue with the concepts of atmospheric weight and geological structure found in my larger landscapes, this piece prioritises the physical presence of the medium. The contrast between a heavy application and the ethereal sky is designed to challenge perceptions of distance and scale. To the viewer, it offers a tactile experience, a focused, high-energy study of elemental force and the crystalline energy of the brine that remains consistent with my broader exploration of balance and nature's raw energy.

I paint what I feel. After a life in finance, the palette knife became my primary way of speaking, plainly, without ornament. My subject is land, sea, and sky, held less as record than as memory of standing inside them.
I work in oils, building surface until it holds weight, something to be touched as much as seen, according to those who collect my work. Whether the canvas is small enough to hold in one hand or large enough to walk into, the intention doesn't change: a place that is as much interior as it is geographical.
In my mid-70s, I look for Self in the work, a thing being entirely itself, answerable to no one. The work says what I couldn't otherwise say. What you find in it is yours.
