Pasiphae is the wife of Minos, son of Zeus and Europa and king of Crete. Pasiphae was induced by Poseidon to fall in love with the bull that he had given to her husband because he had not wanted to sacrifice it to the god. According to another version of the myth it was Aphrodite who, tired of being spied on by Elio, father of Pasiphae, during her love affairs with her half-brother Ares, made her fall in love with the bull. The author imagines her… dragged and upset by this passion of hers that overwhelms her, raising her above the conventions and her role. In the squared construction of the bull there is a further reference to the most licentious part of the myth which narrates that to favor mating Pasiphae entered a wooden cow that had been built by Daedalus who being the court engineer of Minos is also the creator of the labyrinth.
