About this artwork
Tree V belongs to my series "Scrapboard," in which I explore familiar symbols and their transformation. The tree is one of humanity's oldest symbols. It represents growth, permanence, life, and renewal. Precisely because this meaning seems so familiar, I am interested in its painterly reinterpretation.
In this painting, the tree emerges from a dark background, becoming visible through a bright, almost luminous form. I am preoccupied with the idea… that something gains meaning not despite its disappearance, but precisely through it. The tree appears not as a realistic representation, but as a symbol for what remains when much else is lost.
The work moves between symbol, memory, and contemporary painting. Visible traces of the creation process, overlays, and open areas of the image lend the motif a special tension.
